Name: Charles Montgomery Habedatiery Fortesque Smythe The Third

Guild / Church association: Merc

Character Background: An ex-soldier and gentleman, Charles Montgomery Habedatiery Fortesque Smythe has had a long a adventurous military background. His father was a highly ranking officer when he was young, and when he came of age he joined the unit his father had only just retired from, the “Kirk Leigh 5th Heavy Infantry”. He quickly progressed up the ranks, and at the time the regiment was disbanded was a highly respected officer and gentleman of good standing in the city of Kirk Leigh, and had considerable wealth and lands under his name. But all this was lost in a terrible fire that tore through his grand town house one dark, frozen night while he was away.

When he returned, he collected the items of clothing and other possessions that his friends and neighbours had saved and decided to start afresh. With a taste for the military lifestyle he joined the mercenaries guild, with his fathers old short-sword, a gift from a wounded elf, of undetermined clan and originality, that his father tended as he lay bleeding after his regiment beat back a group of indescribable foul spawn terrors. Having been damaged in the fire, the sword had to be re-forged, and as such cost the same amount as having to buy a new sword, but this sword holds great meaning and fond memories of his father for Charles to let it go.

Living, officially, in Braid’s Ford, he rarely visits his home now, as he lives around the province with the bands of adventurers he chooses to travel and adventure with. He is an honourable and chivalrous man, he respects all races, and holds knights and those of higher social standing than he in great respect. He takes orders well, and will serve his master(s) at the time well. He fully respects all seven gods, as any right minded, non-heretic should, but sees Crowa and Kharach as being the two that watch over him and have kept him alive thus far. His downsides are limited, but do exist. He is slightly pompous on occasion, and can be arrogant sometimes also. He also has a fascination with wearing his dressing gown, the only surviving piece of clothing left after the fire, over his armour whilst adventuring, and enjoys smoking a pipe. He has also been known to wear his carpet slippers out and about to, but the weather in Eborshire rarely allows for this. .
